Your Support Helps Sasha Overcome Curiosity

Sasha is one of those curious pups who found out the hard way that not everything on the floor is edible.  She found a piece of rope and ate it, which resulted in an intestinal blockage.  Sasha’s “dad” David, is a disabled veteran who provides Sasha with routine care and does work, but the estimate for life-saving surgery was more than he could afford.  David was referred to HHF and we, along with Tyson’s Echo, assisted with the cost of Sasha’s surgery.  She is doing great now, but David is not taking any chances and routinely checks his home for possible temptations for Sasha!

David’s friend, Dana, who made initial contact with HHF, shared the couple’s appreciation, “Thank you guys so much for what you do!”

DEBBY & ANASTASIA

There is no worse feeling than knowing you can’t provide a loved one with the care they need.  It doesn’t matter if that loved one walks on two legs or four, love is love.

Debby and Anastasia, her medical assistance dog, share that special bond, but the bond was placed in jeopardy recently when Ana became seriously ill.  Debby, who suffers from multiple ailments, got Ana to her veterinarian who determined that Ana had a hole in her esophagus.

Food was leaking into her abdominal cavity, so Ana required immediate surgery.  The veterinary clinic staff referred Debby to Harley’s Hope Foundation, knowing that Debby relies on disability income and couldn’t afford the surgery on her own.  While Ana had a very tough time of things and is still recovering, everyone is hopeful that she will make a full recovery for her sake and Debby’s.
JAN & JADE

Jan recently moved to Colorado to be closer to his daughter and had recently undergone surgery for a bi-lateral hernia.  While walking his dog, Jade, an off-leash dog attacked Jade, causing multiple injuries including a fractured jaw.  Jan and his daughter pulled together funds to get Jade seen at the veterinarian, but were soon referred to a specialist.  Unable to work, Jan worried about getting his pal, Jade the care she needed, but wasn’t about to give up.  He did his research and had already applied to one foundation before discovering HHF.  We approved his application and referred him to a third foundation to pull together the necessary funds.  Jade made it past her first course of treatment, but may require additional surgery to repair her jaw.  Jan, who continues his own recovery and possible additional surgery,  is very appreciative stating,  “From the depths of my soul, thank you for your contribution.  After Jade and I heal, it is my desire to aid you, when and where I can, in your foundation endeavors.”

It’s cases like these that remind us of why we started Harley’s Hope Foundation - to help people who truly value and try to provide for their companion and service animals.  2015 is shaping up to our busiest year yet, with over 60 animals receiving services during the first 5 months of the year.  Your support of our mission makes happy endings like these possible.  Thank you!

It’s hard to believe the Because We Care Pet Fair has been around for 4 years now.  We began hosting the fair with the Colorado Springs Area Veterinary Society in 2011 because our community didn’t have a pet health fair.  Our first year resulted in close to 200 animals receiving wellness checks and vaccinations and the fair has grown from there.  Last year, approximately 300 animals attended and received services and we introduced a celebrity dog wash fundraiser.  As of this writing, we have Tammy Oakland of Sunny 106.3 FM, Dianne Derby of KKTV, and several other media personalities lined up to wash dogs with the help of our friends at Friendly Paws Pet Grooming.  We also invite animal welfare groups to participate at no cost so they can use the event to adopt animals and inform the public regarding their own missions and programs.

So, please plan on joining us on Sunday, June 14th from 11 to 3 for the 4th Annual Because We Care Pet Fair at Intermountain Coach, 3204 E. Platte Avenue.  Bring your well-behaved pets for wellness exams and vaccinations ($5 per pet with proof of financial need, $15 without), $15 microchipping, low-cost spay/neuter vouchers, free nail trims, $10 dog washes, adoptable animals and more.  No admission fee.

Both Harley’s Hope Foundation and Colorado Kitty Pot are mentioned in the Catnip article on page 20.  We’ve sold over 6,000 bags of Colorado Kitty Pot during the last six months, but receiving national exposure like this could help us raise even more funds to support our programs.
